30 years ago, Vector Transport started with a list.<\/p>\n

Two lists, actually, in which Vector President Joe Estess wrote down everything he hated about working with freight brokers. As a longtime shipper and carrier, Joe knew the pitfalls of the business firsthand. So when a trusted employee asked him to go into the brokerage business, Joe explained what was wrong with the industry from both perspectives.<\/p>\n

His shippers list said:<\/p>\n

  1. Brokers don\u2019t care about my business.<\/li>\n
  2. This is just a load to them, but it\u2019s my livelihood.<\/li>\n
  3. They\u2019re never around on weekends or after hours when things go wrong.<\/li>\n
  4. Not interested in service; they just want my money.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    His carriers list:<\/p>\n

    1. If a confirmation number or address or other information they gave me is wrong, I can\u2019t unload on a weekend because I can\u2019t reach them.<\/li>\n
    2. They pay too slowly\u201460 days or more\u2014if they pay at all.<\/li>\n
    3. Nothing is in writing, so agreed-on rates often change on their whim.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Joe and the original Vector team took every item on the negative lists and reversed them to form Vector\u2019s mantra, mission, and organizing principles.<\/p>\n
